Note:

Hebrews 5:14 teaches that mature Christians should be capable of discerning between good and evil, between true doctrine and the
doctrine of devils. The teachings included below are intended to provide the diligent truth-seeker with a thorough understanding of this topic. We at Inquisitive Christianity do not endorse all of the content included in these teachings. After all, it is a rare gift to discover a teaching with which one has no disagreement. Nevertheless, we believe that these teachings offer valuable information for those who seek the truth and are spiritually mature enough to exercise discernment.

Introduction to Artificial Intelligence
(3:23)

Neil Jacobstein is Co-Chair of AI and Robotics at Singularity Institute . Here he briefly overviews the three main vectors in artificial intelligence.

Ray Kurzweil: What Does the Future Look Like?
(1:02:05)

Dr. Ray Kurzweil, is an inventor, futurist, author several books including The Singularity Is Near and How to Create a Mind, and Director of Engineering at Google . In this presentation at Abu Dhabi's Manarat Al Saadiyat as part of the Sheikha Salama bint Hamdan Al Nahyan Forum for New Ideas, Dr. Kurzweil explains the nature of exponential growth in technology and shares his vision for mankind’s future.

Interview with Dr. Hugo de Garis After the Singularity Summit Australia 2010

Former researcher in evolvable hardware and Director of the Artificial Brain Lab at Xiamen Univerity in China,

Dr. Hugo de Garis is best known for his use of genetic algorithms to evolve neural networks which he claims will enable the creation of "artificial brains" that could quickly surpass human intelligence. In this highly informative and mind-blowing interview, Dr. Hugo de Garis manages to make the complex simple regarding the singularity  and its pragmatic consequences. He argues that if Moore's Law can be sustained until 2020, then computers could conceivably become a trillion trillion times more powerful than the human brain. When this technology is merged with the body, it will dramatically overpower the biological element of our humanity and grant mankind god-like powers. But before this occurs, Dr. de Garis argues that the prospective impact of this technology will lead mankind into a existential war between those who wish to embrace this technology and those who reject it. The casualty rate of this war could measure in the billions—something Dr. de Garis refers to as gigadeath .

Supercomputing & the Human Brain
(46:48)

Dr. Larry Smarr is the founding Director of the California Institute for Telecommunications and Information Technology and holds the Harry E. Gruber professorship in Computer Science and Engineering at UC San Diego's Jacobs School of Engineering . In this presentation at the Singularity University , Dr. Smarr discusses supercomputers, how current computation compares to the human brain, and when supercomputers will surpass human processing power.

Transcendent Man

In Transcendent Man, film director Barry Ptolemy follows

Dr. Ray Kurzweil, around the globe as he presents the daring arguments from his best-selling book, The Singularity is Near: When Humans Transcend Biology. Dr. Kurzweil predicts that with the ever-accelerating rate of technological change, humanity is fast approaching an era in which our intelligence will become increasingly non-biological and millions of times more powerful. This will be the dawning of a new civilization enabling us to transcend our biological limitations. In Dr. Kurzweil's post-biological world, boundaries blur between human and machine, real and virtual. Human aging and illness are reversed, world hunger and poverty are solved, and we cure death.

The Singularity

The Singularity is defined as the point in time when computer intelligence exceeds human intelligence. This notion of superhuman machines has long served as fodder for tales of science fiction. Yet most scientific leaders argue that these changes are inevitable, based on the great strides being made in fields such as nanotechnology , artificial intelligence , and molecular biology .  These technologies will radically alter the way we live. Inevitably, the question arises: what kind of humans do we want to become?

Is the Turing Test a Reliable Method of Determining
Artificial Intelligence?
(52:05)

Dr. Ben Goertzel answers the question in this interview, "Is there significance to the chatbot 'Eugene Goostman' passing the Turing Test ?" Dr. Goertzel addresses the limitations of the Turing Test and discusses whether there might be a more reliable method of determining artificial intelligence.

The Perils of Prediction
(58:15)

As part of the Singularity Summit Australia 2011, a panel consisting of

Dr. Lawrence Krauss,
Dr. Steve Omohundro, and
Dr. Ben Goertzel
anticipate the future while also recognizing the perils of prediction.
